Available Presentations and Workshops

Today I prettied up and posted the document showing my available workshops and presentations. Among others, there are presentations on teaching writing and critical thinking, frequency-based vocabulary, assessment, and faculty development. These give a good idea of the kind of work I do.
The series called “Providing the Key” is really the heart of my pedagogy as far as teaching academic writing. I’m coming from a critical studies perspective, and academic writing has been a gatekeeper skill to educational opportunity ever since Harvard invented the first year composition course.
My goal is to help my students access higher education, to help them meet their own goals, whatever those might be. (I also teach it because it’s fun and I’m good at it.) With this Integrated Genre approach (my term), I get really wonderful, substantial work from my students. I do that by building research into the process right away, integrating assignments so students aren’t over-burdened with busy work, and supporting the writing process with my course design. If you’re interested in hearing more about this or in scheduling any of my presentations for teachers, get in touch.

can you send me a sample presentation of a unit lesson plan teaching grammar through songs?

    • Dee says:

I could possibly recommend Schoolhouse Rock, but I don’t teach grammar through songs myself so don’t have any particular resources on that topic. If you find any good ones, come back and share with us here. :)

    I count on you …Thanks!”
